Recreation & Parks Commission

The Henderson – Vance County Recreation and Parks Commission (Commission)  is a joint City-County program providing recreational and aquatic services to the community’s populace.   The purpose of the Commission is to develop recreational plans and programs for Henderson and Vance County residents and give guidance to the City Council, Board of Commissioners and Recreation Department staff on policies affecting recreational programs, facilities and resources.  The legislative basis for the Commission is set forth in Section 29 of the Henderson City Code and the inter-local agreement between the City and County.  Pleases refer to the Commission’s web site at the following link:  Parks and Recreation Commission Web Site .

Meeting Schedule and Location:  The Commission meets on the second Thursday of each month at 12:00 noon at the Aycock Recreation Center.  The public is cordially invited to attend.

Annual Budget:  The City Council provides 55% of the operating funding and Vance County provides 45%.  The City and County each provide for 50% of the debt service.

Membership and Terms of Appointment:  The Commission is comprised of 12 members.  Seven (7) appointments are made by the City are for three (3) year staggered terms and five (5) are made by the County for four (4) year staggered terms.  The City’s appointees are “off schedule” and will be corrected when the 2012 terms expire.
